Mask Artist Heather Gallagher began making masks in 1992, after being invited to a Mardi Gras Ball in the Washington D.C. area, and realizing that the majority of special occasion masks available to consumers were really awful, mass produced, and uninspiring. She won the Most Beautiful Mask award from the hostess that evening and since then, mask making and other costume creations have become an obsession.
Being a Halloween baby, dressing up comes naturally to Heather. Costuming since birth, and sewing since middle school, she made all the masks, costumes, and accessories shown here, plus a whole lot more. She is especially fond of adding a glittering, sparkling touch to her work and puts great attention to detail in her creations.
The masks and accessories have been featured in many Mardi Gras Balls, masquerades, theme parties, and costumed events. The Bohemian Masquerade signature Checkerboard Display has been used to decorate business events as well as alternative musical performances.

Heather has a background in layout, desktop publishing, web design, and information architecture. She is filled with creative energies and makes masks and costumes constantly. Bohemian Masquerade was initially created as a part time project to help Heather save her soul from her creatively lacking corporate job as a computer consultant and to help share her masks with others. Like so many in these times, Heather was laid off recently, so buy a mask and show your support! |
Heather grew up in Virginia, near Washington D.C. She now lives in San Francisco, California, where she pursues her masking and costuming interests, is a photographer, an active Burning Man volunteer, never misses a chance to play dress-up, and generally has a good time!
